Our Commitment to Co-Production

At Douglas Angus Consultancy & Training, we believe Co-Production is the gold standard for creating meaningful, effective, and inclusive mental health training. It’s more than a concept — it’s the foundation of how we work.

What is Co-Production?

Co-Production is a collaborative way of developing services and training by involving those who use mental health services — often referred to as Experts by Experience. This includes individuals with lived experience of mental illness, as well as unpaid carers and family members who have supported loved ones through their mental health journeys.

Their experiences offer critical insights that enhance both professional understanding and practical support. One of our team members, for example, is a carer and sits on the Hertfordshire Co-Production Board, contributing their perspective to shape local mental health services.

Why It Matters

At its core, Co-Production ensures that mental health services and training are informed by real life. It brings professionals, carers, and service users together as equals — not just to consult or advise, but to co-create. We sit together as critical friends, helping improve practices, challenge assumptions, and promote compassionate, effective care.

  • We actively involve Experts by Experience in shaping and delivering training.

  • We champion inclusion, mutual respect, and shared learning.

  • We collaborate with carers, service users, and professionals to drive service improvement.

Co-Production supports diversity and inclusion. It reflects our values of collaboration, respect, and recovery. At Douglas Angus, we’re proud to ensure every voice is heard — because lived experience is not just valuable, it’s essential.

Co-Production means creating better services together — valuing experience as much as expertise.
